OMG! Kristin Cavallari, Kristin Cavallari, Kristin Cavallari!

The reality soap star's name is on the world's tongue when it comes to talk about Laguna Beach.

The arts festivals have reached their seasonal midway point, , the Brooks Street Surf Classic is still going to happen eventually (we hope), , and there's talk about another attempt to ban plastic bags from the city.

But what have people around the world been talking about lately when they talk about Laguna Beach?

That's right ... Kristin Cavallari! Kristin Cavallari! Kristin Cavallari!

Or, more pointedly, the former star of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills, and her breakup with her fiance, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who apparently dumped her last week.

Seriously, everybody is talking about this, debt ceiling be damned! The London Daily Mail. The International Business Times, which has offices in Hong Kong and India. The New York Daily News. The Washington Post.

And now, finally, Laguna Beach Patch. We are so, so ashamed ...

Don't feel bad for the Laguna Beach High alum, though, even though she was trying on wedding dresses just two days before the split. Reports from many media sources have cited Cavallari's friends, who claim that Cutler was outrageously controlling, that he demanded to know where Cavallari was every time she went out with her girlfriends, and that the QB's family insisted she get pregnant right after their planned spring wedding.

Not a recipe for a happy marriage, it would seem. This past Friday, she was even spotted sans 5.2 carat diamond engagement ring.

The city has always had a love/hate thing about MTV's reality soap Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which launched Cavallari's career, as well as those of Lauren Conrad (still wanting you to blog for us, Lauren!), Casey Reinhardt, and Stephen Colletti. Derided for its shallowness and less-than-flattering depiction of Laguna Beach teens (or totally flattering, depending on your P.O.V.), the show's global viewership has certainly goosed up the number of tourists in town, both foreign and domestic, nearly five years after the show's final season aired.

But here's what we want to know. Do you even care about poor Kristin and her pain? Tell us what you think about Kristin vs. Jay, the Laguna Beach TV show and its lingering aftereffects, and celebrity culture in general.
