View Finder: Artistic Book Swap
Readers and writers gathered to swap books and view a gallery show by local artists hosted by Friendship Shelter.
Local writers and readers recently swapped books with the work of artists who have contributed to the Laguna Beach Friendship Shelter, which helps homeless adults achieve self-sufficiency. The event, held in conjunction with Laguna Beach Books, displayed art on gallery walls, and the book swap had a suggested $10 donation for Friendship Shelter.
The event not only honored the artists but also International Friendship Month. A raffle was held to win a basket of art supplies. Homemade brownies, cupcakes and thirst quenching lime-aid were served as well.
Artists Terrell Anansi, Darryl Gober, Randy Morgan and Kathleen Saxon, along with clinical supervisor Karen Redding, formed the artists’ collective showcase. The artists serve as a support group for former residents, and they motivate their artistic endeavors.

This was a great event - low-key, interesting crowd, and easy on the wallet. Recycling at its best.

This proved that people still love books, and like to turn the pages with their hands, and don't mind a pile of them next to the bed, or anywhere for that matter. I was very happy to participate, and to have the opportunity to show the work of the Artists Collective. Thanks Marilyn for your article.
