Kim, not that I don't agree that there isn't a lot of affordable housing for artists and workersRead Moreand the elderly, this has nothing to do with the downtown galleries. Most galleries anywhere aren't owned by artists. The proposed project is a work/live building.

Go to my Gonzo Laguna blogs here in LB PATCH.....if LEE wants facts, you'll find them there. TheRead Moredev eloper's have portrayed the project falsely as AFFORDABLE. Only 27% (8 of the 30 units) is set aside for low income, the rest at whatever they can gouge out....the US Housing Admin. categorizes this as a MIXED INCOME facility.

By law, projects must be seen for their negative, adverse land use and environmental impacts, notRead Moret heir propagandized purpose(s). So the two sides of this are arguing different things: One side is supporting the WHY but ignoring the WHAT. Regulatory oversight isn't about WHY, it's about HOW the project complies with regulations and WHAT are its real impacts to the zone, including not in isolation but in the context of other existing/planned large projects---Cumulative impacts of Canyon projects. Every commercial project must be looked at objectively, whether it's a church, a school, a shopping center, a bank---or a questionably needed mixed income building complex. And puh-lease, this project when joined with the others already nearby, added to the future ones in planning phases, will make the Canyon Road a nightmare------Read my blog, and if you disagree show me where I'm wrong in ANY of my analyses.
