Duncan of Laguna Beach Named to U.S. Team for ITF Seniors World Championships

The USTA today announced the 40 players, including Laguna Beach's Ross Duncan, who will represent the United States at the 34th ITF Seniors World Team Championships, the senior tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions. The 40 American athletes will be among some 1,000 players from 39 countries, including first-time teams from China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Haiti and Venezuela.  The event will be held at different clubs across the Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton area from April 21-26 for the team competition and April 27-May, 4 for the individual competition.

The U.S. team will be defending the Maureen Connolly Cup for the seventh consecutive time in the women’s 55-age division, as well as the Maria Esther Bueno Cup in the women’s 50-age group.  American teams also will try to capture the elusive Italia Cup for the first time in 16 years and the Tony Trabert Cup for the first time in eight years.

This is the first time the World Championships have been hosted in Florida since 2002, when the Seniors World Championships were held in Fort Lauderdale. The event was last held in the U.S. in 2012, when it was contested in San Diego.
