About Sam Diephuis:
Originally from Northern California, Sam Diephuis earned his B.A. at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. With a documentary style and adventurous attitude, Diephuis submerges himself within the cultures he is capturing, sometimes staying for months at a time to gain the trust of his subjects and to feel comfortable in the new environment. For his “Preparacao” photography series, Diephuis spent two months in Rio de Janeiro walking, riding buses and the subway, using his poor Portuguese to navigate a city of more than 6 million people. The images reflect his travels last summer as the city was building and preparing for the World Cup (June 12th) and the Olympics (2016). www.samdiephuis.com
