The Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach was recently honored by the national organization for having a positive impact on kids in the community.

The Gateway to Impact Award was presented by the national organization to the Boys & Girls Club of of Laguna Beach for increasing its average daily attendance in 2012. Pamela Estes, executive director of the Laguna Beach Club, attended the Pacific Leadership Conference Reno, NV in September to receive the award.

"Studies show that if we have the kids here, in our Club, the greater impact we’ll have on their lives,” Estes said. "When we bring in the kids, we want to hold onto them."

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach serves about 2,200 children. Of those children, 1,500 are regular members at the club’s two sites. The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach received the honor out of the entire Pacific region which includes California, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, and Utah.

"Kids come to the club because of the staff,” said Estes. "We have great people that work with the kids who are innovative, passionate and care so much. The parents see it, and the kids feel it.”
