Canyon Road to Be Shut Down Friday for Officer's Memorial Procession

The city has issued a traffic advisory regarding the memorial procession for Laguna Beach Police Officer Jon Coutchie, who was killed last week in an accident.

Coutchie was taken from the Orange County Coroner's office to McCormick & Son mortuary on Tuesday. The procession to Mariner's Church in Irvine for the officer's 11 a.m. memorial service will begin from the mortuary.

Since many uniformed law enforcement officers from around Southern California are expected to attend the services as well as escort Coutchie's hearse from the mortuary, outbound traffic on Laguna Canyon Road between Forest Ave. and El Toro Rd. will be shut down from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Inbound canyon road traffic between Forest and El Toro will be shut down intermittently. These planned conditions are subject to change.

After the Irvine memorial -- which the public is invited to attend -- Coutchie will be flown to Yuma, Arizona, where he will be buried next to his grandfather.
