  • Bombay Sapphire Gin
  • St. Germain elderberry liqueur
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Cucumber slice for garnish

Mild and crisp are the first words that come to mind. The St. Germain seems to be the key to the mellowness of the flavor, as it buffers the Bombay Sapphire’s typical bite. It reminded us a bit of passion fruit, though much, much milder. And unlike typical fruit-based liqueurs, the St. Germain by itself is actually very light and just slightly sweet, and tastes sort of like fresh lychee.

So we could see this pairing nicely with grilled fish or scallops—perfect for a summer evening.

The lightness of the cocktail allowed us to do something we almost never do—eat the garnish. The infusion of the drink into the cucumber slice was the perfect ending to this epitome of crisp.
