Laguna Beach Chamber Announces Golf Tourney to Benefit Glennwood House

A portion of the money raised from the June 3 event will go to fund the community for young adults with developmental disabilities.

Submitted by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce:

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first annual Golf Tournament on June 3, 2013 at the beautiful Coto de Caza golf resort.  The Chamber is offering an extremely affordable price of $175/golfer ($150 for this top-of-the-line golf course to encourage members and non-members to have a fun and unique experience of networking, golf, prizes and excellent food!

The exciting news is that a portion of the proceeds will go towards the building and construction costs associated with The Glennwood House.  The Glennwood House's mission is to provide a loving and unique housing community for young adults with developmental disabilities that will enhance the quality of their lives. The organization hopes to open the doors to a 42-room, independent-living facility in Laguna Beach that will become home for up to 50 young adults with developmental disabilities. Located on a 30,000 square foot site with views of the Pacific Ocean, this facility will accommodate state-of-the-art ADA and Community Care License.

For many of these remarkable young men and women, this will represent their first opportunity to fully realize personal growth as an adult.  Under the guidance of 15 trained health care and social work staff, they will receive support and encouragement to take steps towards assisted independence.  They will have the opportunity to develop skills including self-care, meal planning, grocery shopping, money management and apartment housekeeping. As relayed by an interested family member, "housing means everything to these families.  Parents worry about who will care for their child when they get older. They need to know that someone will be there when they no longer can be. These families just want their child, or brother, or sister will be loved. "
