Laguna Beach Residents Awarded "Spirit of Philanthropy" Award

Karen and Jon Jaffe were given the award, presented by the organization Human Options.

News release submitted by Human Options:

Laguna Beach residents Karen and Jon Jaffe were awarded the Spirit of Philanthropy award at Human Options’ recent annual meeting held at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.  The annual award recognizes an individual or business each year for extraordinary commitment (of time, talent and treasures) to end the cycle of domestic violence.

In the photo, Karen Jaffe (left) is pictured with Human Options CEO Vivian Clecak.  Karen is holding her Spirit of Philanthropy award entitled Healing Hearts - A child’s journey from fear and sadness to joy and hope.  The artists are children ages 1-17 living at Human Options’ Second Step residential facility.  “Healing Hearts” was part of the 2012 Children’s Art Exhibit displayed at Costa Mesa City Hall.  The art project helps build individual self-esteem and a sense of community and is a vehicle to learn healthy ways to cooperate and communicate with others.

About Human Options:

The mission of Human Options is to provide safe haven and life changing programs to help abused women, their children and families rebuild their lives, while working with the community to break the cycle of domestic violence.

Now in its 31st year, Human Options provides a full continuum of services to stop the violence – from prevention and early intervention programs to emergency shelter and long-term transitional housing - that reaches over 20,000 Orange County residents annually.

Independent academic research consistently verifies that nine out of ten of their residential clients continue to be violence free one year or more after graduating from the program.
