Letter: Thank You, Laguna Beach, From the Family of Jerry Piper

Jerry Piper’s wife and daughters would like to thank all our friends, colleagues, and customers for their wonderful support, love and care during this difficult time.

Jerry Piper’s wife and daughters would like to thank all our friends, colleagues, and customers for their wonderful support, love and care during this difficult time.

We were heartened and enormously strengthened and lifted up by the generous donations of all kinds that made the memorial in Bluebird Park so special. Thanks to all who shared stories commemorating Jerry’s spirit of giving to the community throughout his life.

A special thank you to John Bodrero of The Orange Inn, George Catsouras of the White House, and Josie, who helped provide food. Others for whose help we are grateful include Pastor James Wenger, Grace Church of Laguna Niguel; Larie Tales of Jeeps R Us; Colleen Hudgins and Russel Wilson; Steve Battaglia; Greg Etter; Alfred Devito (Dee); and many others too numerous to mention. You know who you are. We are deeply blessed to have you all in our lives.

I considered Jerry a true friend. When I came to him for donations for disaster relief, the man always came through with something to help those he would never even meet. When I threw a first ever birthday party for a little girl on a reservation ( he never met!) Jerry donated many things to make the party Cecila's most special day ever... His biggest hit were kites! he offered up about 20, and the day of the party was windy in the desert. He made the day! Jerry, I think of you often and remember you well as a true man of honor... from a man you earned respect from: Gerry Lakas. Hotel Xanadu. ( God I wish you had lived to visit here!!!) Ayampe', Manabi, Ecuador.

All of us are better people because of him. I remember one conversation with Jerry that still sticks with me. He said " Oh heck, Ive definitly learned more in life from my mistakes than the thinks I've done right". Just remember, Jerry worked every day to get better. He treated people with respect and always had something to give, whether it was an idea or a physical item, etc. Lets just all work hard to pay that forward. Love to Jenni and the girls.
