Neighborhood Congregational Church will again host its annual Bargain Festival (also known as a “100-Family Garage Sale” this Saturday, August 25, to raise funds in support of the church’s mission and ministry work in the local and global community, donating at least 10% of the proceeds directly to a local charity. Shoppers are invited to join in the festivities on Saturday, August 25, from 8 am – 2 pm. The event is free and filled with bargains for purchase at reasonable prices. Lunch will be available for purchase, as well. Additional “end of day” bargains begin after lunch, and include the bargain clothing room’s annual “stuff a bag” sale.
Church volunteers have spent the summer collecting and organizing donations of clothing and shoes, household items, furniture, children’s toys and supplies, collectibles, antiques, and electronics. This week, volunteers have been transforming every corner of the church facility into a shopping mall, complete with designer clothing in the “women’s boutique,” a children’s department with clothing and toys, an electronics room, bargain clothing room, tools, sporting goods, kitchen and household items, and a furniture area in the church parking lot. Preparation is time-consuming, but fills the church halls with laughter and friendship as workers perform the many tasks to make the Bargain Festival a success.
Proceeds will benefit the church’s outreach and missional work both here and abroad, with a portion of the proceeds also going directly to a local charity. For the last three years, the Laguna Beach Resource Center has been Bargain Festival’s recipient, but each year the church’s justice team votes to decide.
