‘TACHO’ by Mirjam Landa American premiere screening of movie from the Czech Republic Plus post-screening Q&A with the Director/Writer

As a part of its 2011 Family Festival, Gallimaufry Performing Arts will be presenting the American premiere screening of the recently released Czech film TACHO by Mirjam Landa. The film will be screened in the original Czech and English with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a talk with the writer/director.

TACHO is Mirjam Landa’s black comedy about a successful Rally racecar driver and his upcoming “race of a lifetime”. After an accident (in which Alex’s co-driver is critically injured), Alex is barred from racing by his doctor.  A brief encounter with a girl prompts Alex to designate her as his new co-driver, despite her total lack of racing experience. Also dreaming of victory are Slovakian kingpin, Jožo, and his new co-driver, Jula, whom he rescued from the clutches of a rival Mafia boss. Further complicating matters are a pair of bumbling English drivers who are also practicing intensely, albeit for something entirely different than the race. Will this dramatic race have any winner at all? Indeed, life is about living every moment.

Released in both the Czech and Slavic Republic this past December, TACHO is the second film collaboration between the husband and wife team of Mirjam and Daniel Landa. Written and directed by Mirjam, the movie stars her ‘rock’ superstar husband Daniel (who also appeared in her first film Touha.). The film also features a top-selling musical score by Daniel.

Over the past two decades Daniel Landa has proven himself as one of the all-time, top selling recording artists in the Czech Republic. Trained as an actor, Daniel became an infamous “punk rock” legend in the 1990s and later transformed himself into a patriotic, musical “man of the people” playing sold-out stadium concerts throughout the region.

TACHO, originally titled Touch the Rainbow, was filmed in May and June 2010 in Nitra, Slovakia, and in the Zlín and Prague areas of the Czech Republic. It stars Daniel Landa as “Alex”, with Olga Lounová as “Lucie”, and also features the actors Martin Havelka, Roman Pomajbo, Rudolf Hrušínský, Kamila Magálová, Rudolf Hrušínský Jr., and English actors, George Nicolas, Christopher Rithin, Julian Pindar, Timothy Otis, Robert Dern and others. TACHO premiered on December 2, 2010.
