Laguna Beach Will Do Battle Against Spider-Man This Summer!

At the box office, anyway, as the release date of Oliver Stone's Laguna Beach-set "Savages" gets bumped to July.

The release date of Oliver Stone's Laguna Beach-set new film Savages, which had originally been set for Sept. 28, has been bumped up to July 6, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

That means the film, which was partially shot in Laguna Beach last September, will go up against The Amazing Spider-Man—which opens three days earlier—for box office dollars during a long Fourth of July week. THR says that Universal, the studio behind Savages, switched the release date to counter-program the superhero flick.

Savages, THR reports, will be a hard-R-rated crime film along the lines of Pulp Fiction, a movie that also starred two Savages actors: John Travolta and Uma Thurman. Savages also stars Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir, who was nominated last week for a Best Actor Oscar for his role in A Better Life. (Bichir and Del Toro were captured by Laguna Beach Patch cameras shooting scenes at Main Beach in September.)

THR also says that Universal is strategizing the release date switch partially to capitalize off any exposure Kitsch gets from his starring roles in John Carter and Battleship, which will open March 9 and May 18, respectively.
