Oliver Stone Talks About His Laguna Beach-Set Film "Savages"

The director's film, shot partly in Laguna Beach this past fall, is set for a September 28 release.

Oliver Stone spoke with the L.A. Times about Savages, his film version of Don Winslow's Laguna Beach-set novel.

Stone spent a week shooting scenes here in September, and describes the saga, involving a violent Mexican marijuana drug cartel going up against three young Laguna Beach entrepreneurs, as "a classic Walmart against a high-end boutique" story.

Savages is scheduled for a Sept. 28 release, and stars a pretty major Hollywood A-list of both veteran and rising actors: John Travolta, Blake Lively, Uma Thurman, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Salma Hayek, Benicio del Toro and Emile Hirsch.
