Amazing New Bus Bench in Heisler Park Will Be Dedicated Saturday

It's the latest public collaboration from Laguna Beach artists Larry Gill and Gavin Heath.

Laguna Beach metal sculptor Larry Gill and glassblower Gavin Heath have done it again.

Their cast glass and stainless steel bus bench was installed in February at Heisler Park. Titled "Tide Pool Paddleboard," it sits at the point where Cliff Dr. meets Jasmine St., and, like the name implies, it looks like a stand-up paddleboard, with Heath's gorgeously colored glasswork blown to resemble a sort of abstract interpretation of the real tidepools just below the park cliffs. One suggestion ... try to avoid sitting on it with sharp objects in your back pocket.

The pair have collaborated on several other bench projects around the city.

A proper dedication ceremony for "Tide Pool Paddleboard" will be held Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m., with Mayor Kelly Boyd officiating.

It is stunning. It makes you stop and you feel like you are looking into the ocean on a beautiful clear day. Well done thank you so much for this incredible piece of public art.

It makes me think of the colors and creatures in a tide pool or aquarium. So beautiful. Something else beautiful to see while passing time.

What a beautiful commemoration of the surfing and the beautiful tide pools! Perhaps there should also be a sign near the bench instructing the public in how th protect and respect the pools and the inhabitants.

Carol: There's an information marker that tells people about the tidepools, I believe it's closer to Las Brisas ...

For those rude Pro. Photographers that think they own the beach and demand you get out of their shotRead More you can call Jim Barris 464-6669 or the non emergency (911) (949) 497-0701. I called the city and found this out after a photographer kicked my dog for being in "his" shot.
