View Finder: Laguna Playhouse Provides Amusements for Young Buccaneers

To celebrate their 90th anniversary in Laguna Beach, the Laguna Playhouse hosted a family-friendly pirate activity day on Saturday.

Zachary Chestelson, 7, and his brother Dylan Chestelson, 5, got to sword-fight while Derek Kubota, 8, and his brother Mitchel Kubota, 6, decorated pirate hats. It was all part of the fun at A Pirate Adventure hosted by The Laguna Playhouse on Saturday. The event was part of a celebration in honor of the playhouse's 90th Anniversary in Laguna Beach.

Board Member Joe Hanauer let the festivities take place on his property adjacent to the theater. Several families participated in a dozen activities including storytelling, pirate hat-making and a treasure hunt. Actors participated in a stage combat demonstration. Lunch and a live matinee performance of Treasure Island was included in the $25 ticket.

"We've got 90 people on our 90th anniversary committee," said anniversary chair Karyn Philippsen. "We are celebrating for 18 months and part of that celebration is this family event."
