Huell Howser, the outgoing, ever-cheerful California TV icon who died Sunday, paid a visit to Laguna Beach in 2008 and recorded an entire hour-long episode of his California's Gold PBS series here.
That episode, along with just about every segment Howser produced for California's Gold and his other programs, has been preserved as part of the Huell Howser Archive at Orange's Chapman University.
Howser retired from producing his shows this past November, at which point it was announced that Chapman would become the permanent caretaker of his video legacy.
In the Laguna Beach segment, Howser visited the Orange Inn, the Laguna Art Museum, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, the Nix Nature Center and Las Brisas, and spent some time with our lifeguards and explored our tidepools.
