Video: Laguna Beach Police Go After Pedestrian-Ignorant Drivers

Several Laguna Beach police officers spent Wednesday morning enforcing the city's crosswalk laws, with tickets handed out for drivers who didn't bother noticing a pedestrian crossing the road.

The planted pedestrian, in this case, was Sgt. John Falk, who crossed over eternally busy Coast Hwy. and Glenneyre numerous times at several intersections, essentially acting as bait for ignorant motorists. While Falk's bright-yellow vest may have been one reason why there didn't seem to be as many distracted drivers as there ordinarily might have been, police still managed to pull over several vehicles, one of which we captured in the above video.

As Falk says in the clip, the point of the morning exercise was to raise awareness of pedestrians in this traffic-heavy town. Between April 2011 and April 2012, approximately 21 car-versus-pedestrian collisions happened in Laguna Beach, with 13 of those happening in crosswalks.
