A Lure Restaurant to Open at Old Seafood Barge Site

After baiting potential customers along for nearly a year, A Lure is set to open in the building that formerly housed the Seafood Barge in Southold.

North Fork residents will not have to wait much longer for a true “fish house” to emerge in Southold because the owners behind in Mattituck have signed a lease to open a new seafood restaurant, A Lure, at the

Tom Schaudel and Adam Lovett have signed a lease to run the what they describe as a “chowder house and clam bar” at Port of Egypt Marina in the Southold, in the building that formerly held the Seafood Barge. aMano chef Jeffrey Uguil will add his culinary expertise to the venture.

Last year, the restaurant underwent extensive renovations including the addition of a 100-foot wraparound waterfront deck, a double-sided indoor fireplace, and a self-service takeout window. When the renovations were completed, the owners of Port of Egypt searched for a lessee for the turn-key restaurant space.

aMano Chef Tom Schaudel said that he'd been looking at the location for a couple of months.

"We decided to go for it, because we're in love with the location and it was available," he said. "The North Fork could use a good seafood restaurant."

According to the menu, the 85-seat restaurant will feature local produce and fish. Menu items will include grilled and lightly sautéed striped bass, tuna, and swordfish, a raw bar, specialty salads, pasta, lobster, and a limited steak selection.  A Lure promises to be one of the only local restaurants to feature Long Island wines exclusively. Schaudel and Lovett will play an intricate role in wine selection for the restaurant.

A Lure is scheduled to open in May.

To add a bit of history to the renovated building: it was the Port of Egypt Restaurant and Bar run by Herman Lieblein where good food and good fun could be had.

It's a wonderful location, perfect for a seafood restaurant. Congrats and we look forward to a plate of oysters in May.

Wow! I think the North Fork has found itself another great restaurant. With Tom Schaudel and friends involved it's got to be a great addition to the East End of LI. Put me down for a reservation asap.

On a beautiful Thursday evening in July I brought 3 adults and 5 young men visiting from California, who just turned 21 to A Lure. They loved the food, presentation and local harvest as ingredients. They especially loved the local wine. No Tom that night, but Adam was there. Everything was perfect...from the outdoor table to the last morsel of food. Dinner was a big hit!
