Asada Restaurant Hopes to Sizzle Again

Asada in Laguna Beach has been closed for about a month, but the mexican restaurant might soon be re-opening at another location, the Orange County Register reported.

Previously located at 480 S. Coast Highway, Asada shut its doors on Oct. 12 following several months of bankruptcy litigation with its parent company, MCF480 LLC. According to the newspaper's report, Asada's landlords tried to evict the business claiming they were owed $65,000 in back rent.

“During the first year, when times were really tough to make ends meet, when I wasn’t taking a paycheck for months, they still wanted their rent,” Scott McIntosh, Asada's owner-operator, told the newspaper.

According to McIntosh, in the restaurant business rent is often adjusted depending on the season, but that type of agreement was not in place. An attorney told the Orange County Register Asada and its parent company reached a settlement which allowed McIntosh to keep the branding, the company and the chance to try the Asada concept at another location.

If the circumstances are right, McIntosh told the newspaper he would like to reopen Asada in Laguna Beach.
