Get Out: What To Do This Weekend

Art, jazz, wine, books, and ... disaster preparedness? Yesss!

Yes indeedy, it's already Thursday, and the weekend is just about here. So let Laguna Beach Patch give you a few ideas for your done-work-outta-here time.

  • First Thursdays Art Walk featuring the Laguna Dance Festival
    Where/When: Throughout art galleries and stores in Laguna Beach, from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. That's TONIGHT!
    Why go: This month, the Art Walk is a special one, highlighting the upcoming Laguna Dance Festival, slotted this year from April 14-17. Be on the lookout for dancing outbreaks in gallery windows and event sites.
    Price: Free, with free shuttle service between downtown and the HIP District.
  • Art That's Small at City Hall
    Where/When: City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue. Thursday, 5 p.m. Also TONIGHT!
    Why go: A nice reception for the artists chosen for the current juried exhibit of art that must measure 12 inches or smaller and have been created by residents of Orange County.
    Price: Free.
  • The Esther Wells Collection "Best of Plein Air" Painting and Exhibit
    Where/When: 1390 S. Coast Highway, Thursday (Art Walk night) and Saturday from 4-8 p.m. (sale).
    Why go: This is the final event at the Esther Wells Collection as the doors to one of the oldest galleries in Laguna Beach close on April 30th. Be a part of history and own one of the last art pieces sold in this unique gallery. For more information, call 949-494-2497.
  • Public Workshop for Disaster Preparedness
    Where/When: City council chambers, 505 Forest Avenue. Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Why go: A third-party-facilitated workshop designed to hear from victims
    of previous disasters in Laguna Beach and how to prepare and manage for the next one, whether it's a fire, flood, landslide, inch-tall tsunami or tourist invasion.
    Price: Free and open to the public. More info at 949-497-3311.
  • Laguna Beach Music Boosters 17th annual fundraiser
    Where/When: Artists Theatre at Laguna Beach High School. Saturday, 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
    Why go: A jazzy good time listening to the Thurston Jazz Band, Club Django, the Blues Offenders and special guests. Proceeds benefit the instrumental music department at Laguna Beach High and Thurston Middle School.
    Price: $15 reserved and $10 general admission.
