Smash and Grab Burglars Target Laguna Stores

Burglars smashed the front windows at European Optical and Ganahl Lumber to steal thousands of dollars in goods.

Laguna Beach police today released photos and videos of two smash-and-grab burglaries in seeking public help in finding suspects.

The burglaries this month appear to be unrelated, Laguna Beach police Capt. Jason Kravetz said.

About 7:45 a.m. May 10, employees of European Optical in the 1200 block of South Coast Highway called police to report that two burglars smashed the front window of the store and grabbed about 65 pairs of glasses collectively worth about $13,000, Kravetz said.

The second burglary happened about 12:35 a.m. Thursday, Kravetz said. Two hoodie-wearing suspects smashed the lower portion of a glass door at Ganahl Lumber, 1765 Laguna Canyon Road, Kravetz said.

When they got into the store they stole multiple items such as tools worth about $8,200, Kravetz said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Matt Meadows at (949) 497-0758.
