One dance tells the story of a teenage girl who puts up with an unkind boyfriend until she discovers the strength within to break free and feel comfortable on her own. Another is a flirty fusion of traditional Indian dancing and jazz. Yet another explores through dance the gravitational pull of objects—and people. A fourth will show


More than a dozen original works in a variety of dance genres, choreographed by four professional choreographers as well as instructors and two advanced students, will be on the program for the Essence dance performance at Laguna Beach High School next week.


The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday, Dec. 13 through Saturday, Dec. 15 in the Artists Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens; in addition, reserved tickets for the prime front and center seats are available for $20.


The box office will be open from 5p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, the day before the first performance, as well as for 90 minutes before each performance. For additional information on how to reserve advance tickets, call (949) 497-7769.


The Lumberyard restaurant is holding a benefit for the dance program the evening of the first show. The restaurant will donate 20% of the tab to the dance program for anyone who dines at the Lumberyard that evening and mentions that being a supporter of Laguna Beach High School dance.
