Local Teens Lead Effort to Build Needed Wells in Africa’s Poorest

Countries

Laguna Beach—The 1st Annual Walking for Water and Healing Hands

Feast for Water

Fundraiser will be held Saturday, February. 8, from 5:30pm-7pm, at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 342 St.

Ann’s Dr.

The Feast, which is being held to build wells in Africa, is part of the 5th Annual Green Valentine Event, (www.greenvalentine.net) celebrating kids and teens as the next generation of change makers in our world. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Feast for Water is sponsored by

Wisdom Spring (www.wisdomspringinc.org), a nonprofit which uplifts, honors and

preserves the wisdom of indigenous cultures. The organization offers programs

which focus on education, travel, culture, community and scientific exchange.

Currently, local student clubs are raising funds to build a well in Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in

Africa. In Burkina Faso, villagers- usually women and children- must walk up to

six hours per day to collect clean water, which is representative of the 884

million people world-wide who do not

have access to safe water. (WHO/WATERAID).

Over the past 10 years, Wisdom

Spring’s youth-led fundraisers have contributed to the construction of 30 wells

in indigenous communities in developing countries.

The Feast for Water Fundraiser is

entirely designed, planned and organized by Laguna Beach teens. The event is

co-sponsored by LIVING YOUR GIFTS, (www.livingyourgifts.com) a local Laguna Beach enterprise whose mission is to empower

individuals to find, live and contribute their gifts to the world. According to

Susan Hough, founder of Living Your Gifts, “We are proud to support our youth by

helping them to find their individual gifts by participating in worthwhile community

projects.”

The
Feast for Water Fundraiser Dinner is $20, and individuals can sign up online at

http://wisdomspringinc.org/feast/ or
purchase tickets at the door. Individuals unable to attend the fundraiser may
donate directly on line at www.wisdomspringinc.org,

or send a tax deductible check to Wisdom Spring Inc., 826 Cliff Drive, Laguna

Beach, CA. Press interested in interviewing the teens may call Susan Hough
