Laguna Man Honored for Dedication to Boys & Girls Club

Editor's note: The following story was submitted by the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Piero Wemyss, Laguna Beach resident and member of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach(The Club) was honored with The Eddy Award on November 12, 2013 for his exemplary service and dedication to the Club.

For over 6 years, Piero has volunteered as a Boys & Girls Club Board member and is the V.P of the Boys & Girls Club’s Endowment committee. He also oversees the membership and growth of The Heritage Club which consists of thoughtful individuals who have included a Boys & Girls Club in their will or estate plans. Both the Endowment and Heritage Club provide a pipeline for future financial security. These consequential endeavors help ensure the Boys & Girls Club will continue to deliver its vital programs and guidance for youth in the future.

Passion for youth and community is the driving force behind his support of several well established organizations in Orange County as well as the Club; Orangewood Children’s Foundation and Share Our Wine Foundation are a couple more he supports. Piero’s service above self extends the average call of duty as he supports the Club in more ways than one. Whether it is attending Club events, fundraisers, friend raisers, or generating buzz about the Club’s programs; he is getting the Boys & Girls Club word “out there” for all to hear. Piero has often said, “The endowment is our Club’s future. To consider leaving a gift to a great organization like the Boys & Girls Club is not only supporting what the Club is today, it’s leaving a legacy of remarkable potential for the years to come.”

Named after local broadcaster Ed Arnold, The Eddy Awards are presented annually by the Orange County Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon exemplary volunteers, typically Board of Directors, from each Orange County club in the spirit of service and altruism.
This year, the Eddy Awards were presented by Ed Arnold himself and held at the Anaheim White House. Honorees and their respective Clubs enjoyed an award winning dinner of signature entrees by chef/proprietor and 2011 CNN Hero Bruno Serato who is himself a huge supporter of the Boys & Girls Club.
