Gripped by Move-in Mania? Glide into Your Home with Minimal Stress

Moving to a new Orange County home can be very stressful. Laguna Beach realtor Hillary Caston shows how to make the process easier.

You’ve just purchased a beautiful Orange County home. But instead of popping the champagne corks, you’re climbing the walls. Very understandable. Moving, even to a gorgeous Orange County property, is one of life’s major stress events. By following the following steps, however, you can glide into your home with minimal stress.

Let It All Out. Feel the mover’s frustration bubbling up inside of you? You wouldn’t if you released some steam every now and again. Assemble a super squad of support personnel – family, friends, etc. Then share your concerns with them until they politely show you the door. Not only will these caring folks help you reason things out, they’ll likely console you with many free, money-saving meals.

Free Your Mind. If you’re obsessing about ‘the big move’ morning, noon, and night, you’re putting in way too much overtime. Re-set your priorities by assigning a slot in the day to tackle your mountain of moving details. For the rest of the day, focus on your usual lineup of activities – shopping, watching TV, lounging on the beach, and if you have time, your job.

Become an Anti-Stress Machine. Move-in mania has a way of giving mind and body a severe pounding. Fortunately, you can battle back with two known stress handlers – exercise and nutrition. If you’re re-entering the world of physical activity after a 10-year hiatus, don’t leap into the local marathon. Instead, try daily routines of walking, tennis, or swimming. More advanced champions can get abundant stress relief from activities such as running, weight-lifting, and Pilates. We’re in the land of sunshine and sea breezes, so opt for outdoor activities whenever possible. Fresh air and scenery are nature’s sedatives.

EZ Does It. Your big move is a doorway to new friends, schools, clubs, etc. Naturally, you’re eager to jump into these new social environments. But the transition into unknown territory also is a major stress trigger. The solution? Allow yourself a break-in period. This means, give yourself plenty of time to adjust to your unfamiliar setting before settling into your new social roles. Before you know it, you’ll feel like a full-fledged member of the Laguna Beach Starfish Lover’s Club, and the community at large.
