WARNING, COYOTES in Arch Beach Heights! SMALL DOGS BEWARE!

Coyotes in Arch Beach Heights.

Since living in Arch Beach Heights with my wife and dog (Booth, a friendly Doberman), we've LOVED taking on leash walks through in the early morning and late afternoon.

Our walks are something we look forward to, as it's one of the times we can all spend time together as a family. It's great to enjoy the outside weather and panoramic ocean views of the Pacific, and get some much-needed cardio exercise in.

If you have not yet visited this area, it's a must! Since these walks, we've spotted coyotes 8 out of 10 times. Usually they stay off the paved road, but on our last few trips out, they've gotten very aggressive.

The last several times, they've come in small packs, 2-3 deep, and have charged directly toward Booth. My wife and I love our dog, so we naturally charge right back while freeing him from his leash, so he's not trapped in a fight.

They usually run off. However, a few times, Booth has managed to engage them in a game of chase. Fortunately, he's very fast, and has not been caught, bitten or scratched.

I feel the need to share this with my community, as we love our dog and can't imagine something happening to him. Please keep your smaller dogs close and on leash (it's the law) while hiking in this area. The coyotes seem to be much more confident and aggressive, and have no problem charging ahead.

I've managed to snap a picture of one of the culprits and posted it here, as well as our boy Booth.
