Passings: William McMurray, 12-Year-Old Son of Penguin Cafe Owners [Updated With Memorial Information]

UPDATE, SUN. AUG. 11: A public memorial for William is now scheduled for this Friday, Aug. 16, at the Aliso Creek Inn at 4 p.m., according to a new post on the Supporting William Aiden McMurray Facebook page which also says "The whole community is welcome so spread the word!!!!!!"

ORIGINAL POST: William McMurray, a 12-year-old boy whom the Laguna Beach community rallied around after he was diagnosed with brain cancer, has died.

His passing was announced Thursday on the Supporting William Aiden McMurray Facebook page by his mother, Sabrina, who owns the Penguin Café with her husband and William’s father, Michael.

William was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor called brain stem glioma in July, 2012. Residents responded with an outpouring of love and support for the family, holding benefit events such as a 5K walk and a Fun at the Field fundraiser at Riddle Field

Since William’s passing, people have stopped by the Penguin Cafe and left flowers, notes and remembrances on the benches out front.
