Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey Were at Crystal Cove ... and So Was I

Summer has always been a special time for me. While I love living in Laguna Niguel and being so close to Salt Creek Beach and the Dana Point Harbor, I have fond memories of another beach.

For example, while actresses Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey were shooting the movie Beaches at , just south of Corona del Mar in 1987-1988, my mother and sister were enjoying the family beach house at the other end of the strand within walking distance. I was working in Hollywood at the time, but when I did come down to visit, I'd stay there, too.

I strolled by there the other day and noticed that the green screen is still attached to the house that helped filter out the sun. The great view is still breathtaking, and the Beachcomber restaurant we ate at often is still there.

However, all the homes have since reverted back to the state of California under the land lease agreement.

Also, the Beaches house is presently under renovation as I noticed. They were working on keeping the special porch area in place, which was the set for the final days of Hershey's last days in the movie.  

Crystal Cove was a special place and it still is thanks to the homes and the beautiful beach. I can still remember the cool breezes and the lazy summer days that I spent there with my family.
