A quick trip to Aliso Beach late Friday afternoon by Laguna Beach Patch revealed an empty, sandy, closed parking lot. There was no visible debris, but crashing waves were breaking much closer to the lot than normal. A handful of people were watching the waves and taking pictures and video of the spectacle. Most didn't appear to be too bothered by the parking lot closure, opting to instead just park in the many spots along Coast Highway and walk in—something most people do anyway when they want to avoid paying parking and use fees.

Capistrano Beach's parking lot in Dana Point was closed because the high surf damaged a wooden boardwalk and some steps.

"Today the surges are coming up higher again so the staff decided to close the beach completely,'' O'Neil said.

The two beaches could remain closed through the Labor Day weekend, O'Neil said.
