Update: Suspected Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested in Laguna Beach

The suspect is a resident of San Juan Capistrano.

UPDATED, 3:30 p.m. FRIDAY, JULY 22: The suspect has been identified as Jason Michael Roberts, 32, of San Juan Capistrano.

ORIGINAL POST, FRIDAY, JULY 22: The suspect in an early morning hit-and-run car accident in Huntington Beach that killed a 24-year-old woman was arrested two hours later in Laguna Beach.

The driver was taken into custody on Coast Highway near Emerald Bay, police said.

The accident occurred at 1:48 a.m. as Oriana Millan of Huntington Beach crossed a lighted crosswalk with friends near Brookhurst Street and Atlanta Avenue. She was struck by a car described as a metallic Toyota Camry driven by a male. Harlan Coffman, 25, of La Mirada, was also struck by the vehicle. Coffman was hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

At 3:38 a.m., Laguna Beach Police received a 911 call from a man reporting that his car had broken down on North Coast Highway in Emerald Bay, according to Lt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach Police Department. The man said he had hit an animal, but when officers arrived, it became immediately apparent that the man had struck a human being, as the damage on the Camry was consistent with a person being hit, and there was also physical evidence on the car from the victim, authorities said.

Officers detained the suspect, and Huntington Beach police came to arrest him.
