Laguna Beach Firefighters Douse Laundry Room Flames

The blaze caused about $100,000 worth of damages to a South Laguna house Monday night.

News release from the Laguna Beach Fire Department:

At approximately 10:41 p.m. Monday night, Laguna Beach firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 2900 block of Rounsevel Terrace, which is located just south of Nyes Place.

Laguna Beach firefighters promptly arrived and were able to limit the fire damage to a laundry room storage area located just off of the garage. When Fire Captain Chris Kent and his crew from Laguna Engine #2 arrived first on-scene, they quickly went to work and made access to the upper level deck area, nearly above the fire.

Significant flames were observed blowing through the garage ceiling area when Captain Scott Jennie and his crew from Laguna Engine #4 arrived next on-scene and assisted in effectively knocking the fire down before it could extend deeper into the structure.

“Flames were blowing through the deck when we pulled up to the fire,” explained Laguna Beach Fire Engineer Chip Gilmore.

Additional Laguna Beach Firefighters arrived on-scene, including the respective crews from Laguna Engine #1 (Captain Frank Buckner and crew) and Laguna Engine #3 (Captain Steve Rening and crew).

The total damages are estimated at approximately $100,000, which includes some limited damage to the common wall and ceiling areas in the garage of an adjacent property.  The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, but remains under investigation.  There were a total of 18 firefighters on-scene during the firefighting and overhaul operations.

This fire was located on one of the tight streets just below a portion of the recent vegetation fire we experienced last month, and it presented us some challenging access issues that our firefighters did a great job of working through.
