Laguna Beach Man Dies in San Diego County Car Accident

Kenneth Stanley Rogers, 73, was killed Tuesday in Encinitas when his car collided with a guard rail after exiting a freeway.

A 73-year-old Laguna Beach man died Tuesday when his car ran off Interstate 5 and into a ravine in San Diego County.

The man, who has been identified as Kenneth Stanley Rogers, died of blunt force trauma injuries after his convertible PT Cruiser sped through the intersection of the exit ramp for Birmingham Drive in Encinitas, collided with the guard rail, became airborne, then fell about 150 feet into an embankment. The car rolled over at least once and stopped against a fence.

Firefighters extracted Rogers from the vehicle and he was then taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office (see PDF file) states that Rogers' personal medical issues were contributing conditions in the accident.
