Laguna Beach Police Cite 40 Drivers for Not Respecting Pedestrians

They were out in force on Wednesday.

Pedestrians have the right-of-way. Apparently, drivers in Laguna Beach need to learn that lesson.

Over and over again.

So the way some cities (including Laguna Beach) like to beef up patrols to look for impaired drivers, Laguna Beach Police Department from time to time likes to catch motorists who don't respect pedestrians in crosswalks.

Like they did Wednesday. Forty of them.

"Forty citations were issued for crosswalk right-of-way violations, and for passing cars stopped for pedestrians in crosswalks. One written warning and four verbal warnings were also issued," says a Laguna Beach.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Laguna Beach police -- with assistance from Irvine officers -- focused their attention on a number of North and South Coast Highway crosswalks, and a couple on Glenneyre Street too.

"The Laguna Beach Police Department will be conducting additional crosswalk details during the year in our ongoing effort to keep our roadways safe," the press release states.
