A 27-year-old Laguna Beach woman was behind bars today on suspicion of triggering a deadly drunken driving crash that killed a motorcyclist on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Irvine.
Leslie Juarez was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, California Highway Patrol Officer Devon Boatman said. She was being held without bail, according to Orange County jail records.
Juarez was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse south on the freeway just south of Sand Canyon at a high rate of speed when she collided with a 2006 Nissan Sentra about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the police report. That caused the 21-year-old driver of the Sentra to lose control of the car, which veered over the median wall into the northbound lanes, according to the CHP.
A 20-year-old San Juan Capistrano man who was driving a 1995 Toyota Tacoma south on the freeway collided with the Sentra, according to the CHP.
A 32-year-old Tustin man riding a 1999 Suzuki TL1000 RX north on the freeway did not see the Sentra in time to avoid a collision and suffered fatal injuries, according to police.
Juarez and the Sentra's driver suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals, the CHP said.
