Man Who Died In Laguna Beach Waters Identified

A man who went scuba diving off Diver's Cove Sunday afternoon and suffered a fatal heart-related incident has been identified as Paul Peto, 66, of Yorba Linda.

Peto went into cardiac arrest on a dive with his son. The men were diving about 100 yards off the beach at the time. Lifeguards arrived to administer CPR, but Peto couldn't be revived, and he was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m., according to the coroner's report.

There were no reports of rough surf or any other ocean or weather-related conditions that might have contributed to Peto's death.

This is at least the second death this year in the popular diving waters below Cliff Drive. In April, Mark Gibbs of Tustin died while on a dive off Shaw's Cove.

And in May 2011, Andrew Brislen of San Clemente suffered a fatal shallow-water blackout at Diver's Cove
