Monday Stabbing Leaves One Man Injured, One in Jail

David Prendez, 55, is arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

David Prendez, a 55-year-old homeless man from Sacramento, was arrested Monday evening following a stabbing incident that wounded another homeless man.

Laguna Beach police responded to a 5 p.m. call to the beach below the 500 block of S. Coast Hwy. A lifeguard had reported two men fighting.

Officers arrived to find one 42-year-old man receiving medical treatment for a four- to five-inch stab wound to the left side of his chest. The suspect had left the area, but was located moments later on El Paseo St.

The two men had been arguing over an incident which occurred a few days earlier. One had accused the other of stealing property. The argument culminated in a fist fight and stabbing.

The victim was transported to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach with non-life threatening injuries. Prendez was taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon and transported to Orange County Jail and held on $25,000 bail.
