Police Offer a Place to Take Your Surplus Drugs

Laguna Beach PD and the DEA are hosting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday.

From a Laguna Beach Police Department press release:

The Laguna Beach Police Department announces its participation in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

This program provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications.

The ongoing effort symbolizes the Laguna Beach Police Department’s commitment to halting the disturbing rise in addiction caused by the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs.

In cooperation with federal authorities, the Laguna Beach Police Department will host a free, anonymous, no questions asked collection site on Saturday, April 26th between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The prescription medications may be dropped off at the Laguna Beach High School / Laguna Beach Unified School District parking lot, located at 550 Blumont St.

This is the eight nationwide take-back initiative. Over the past 3 ½ years, more than 1,700 tons of medication have been collected nationwide. This event not only removed these dangerous drugs from our homes, minimizing the potential for misuse and abuse, but it also educates thousands of concerned citizens about the dangers of prescription drug use.

All solid dosage pharmaceutical products and liquids in consumer containers will be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original containers. Intra-venous solutions, injectibles, and syringes cannot be accepted due to the potential hazards.

For any additional questions about the event, please contact Detective Sendele at (949) 497-0369 or email SSendele@LagunaBeachCity.net
