Thurston Middle School Students Participate in Spark of Love Toy Drive

Nearly 200 toys were collected for kids in need this year.

News release from the Laguna Beach Unified School District:

For nearly 20 years, the Spark of Love Toy Drive has helped make the holiday season brighter for children. CAL FIRE, together with ABC-7 and other sponsors, have collected donations of new, unwrapped toys, sports equipment and gift cards to distribute to children in local communities.

This is the third year students have participated in this worthy endeavor with the . Thurston Leadership students organized and coordinated the Spark of Love Toy Drive school-wide. Their hard work illustrates their continued commitment to help others and give back to the community.

Thurston Middle School Principal Jennifer Salberg commends Leadership teacher Leah Prettyman, Leadership advisor Michael Bair and the students for their inspirational influence, “Leadership by definition is the ability to lead, which is exactly what Thurston's Leadership class is doing this time of year. The leadership class continues to provide our students with opportunities that contribute to the reason for the season. Under their lead we gathered gifts and gave true meaning to this holiday season. I am so very proud of our Thurston leadership students and appreciate all of their hard work.”

Ms. Prettyman remarks, “The Thurston Middle School students have once again demonstrated their kindness by giving so generously to the Spark of Love Toy Drive. This year, with the incredible support of the Leadership class, TMS has collected nearly 200 toys, our biggest donation yet! Imagine the joy that will bring to so many children! Thank you Thurston families for your continued support of this important annual event.”

Firefighters from Laguna Beach Fire Department collected the Thurston donations and will distribute the gifts and bring holiday cheer to children in need.
Leadership students also hosted an appreciation lunch for the Laguna Beach Fire Department representatives.
