City Council Voting Tonight on Skateboard Confiscation Law

If passed, the Laguna Beach cops will be able to keep your 'board for up to a month, if you're not careful ...

At Tuesday's meeting tonight (Oct. 16), the Laguna Beach City Council is expected to:

  • Vote on an ordinance that would allow police to confiscate skateboards from anyone under 18 if they're caught riding around town without a helmet. If any law-breaking kids are caught sans brain bucket, the LBPD would have the authority to take and keep their boards for one week. If caught any other time after that, then the boards will be in skateboard solitary confinement for one month. But, perhaps most embarrassingly of all, your mom or dad will have to come with you to get your board back. D-oh! (To read the entire ordinance as it will be proposed tonight, click on the PDF file in the box on the right -->)
  • Authorize the Fire Department to purchase 14 wireless modems at a cost not to exceed $35,100. Surely wireless modems can't cost that much, can they? Hopefully they can find some on sale someplace ...

There will also be the usual grab-bag of approvals of minutes, denials of claims, awardings of contracts, receiving of reports, stuff about stuff, and much, much more!
