City Hall and Susi Q Closures; Water Quality Monitoring; New LBPD Lieut

Weekly update from Laguna Beach City Manager John Pietig:

Water Quality Sampling at Main Beach - The County of Orange has installed a sampling canister at the south end of the Main Beach boardwalk.  The device is placed there to capture storm water runoff during two storm events this winter season.  As in previous years, the container used to house the equipment is being screened from view by existing trash receptacles.  The annual sampling and analysis is a required element of our Orange County Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) Permit. 

Community & Susi Q Center Holiday Closure - The Susi Q Center will be closed from Wednesday, December 19 through Tuesday, January 1.  The Center will re-open on Wednesday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m. The Center will be open on Wednesday, December 19, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. for a public workshop on the Downtown Parking Management Plan.

City Hall Closed on Monday before Christmas and New Year’s - This year, the Christmas and New Year’s holidays each fall on Tuesday, December 25 and January 1. City Hall is closed on these dates.  This year City Hall will also be closed on Monday, December 24 and Monday, December 31. Essential services such as police, fire, lifeguards, bus service and other functions would still be provided on all these days.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Graduation – The second CERT class graduates on Saturday, December 15, at noon at the Susi Q Center.  A total of 23 members will receive their certificates.

New Police Lieutenant – Effective December 24, Sergeant Joe Torres will be promoted to Police Lieutenant.  Lieutenant Torres has been with the department for over ten years and was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department for five years before coming to Laguna Beach.  In his new capacity he will have primary responsibility for overseeing evening patrol operations.

Captain Kravetz to attend the FBI National Academy – Captain Jason Kravetz has been selected to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, in January.  This is a federally funded graduate level management program to prepare law enforcement professionals to take on greater leadership roles in their organizations.  Chief Workman and Captain Lenyi are also graduates of this program.
