Council Member Rollinger to Run Again

"There is still work to be done," she says.

Laguna Beach city council member Verna Rollinger has announced her decision to run for reelection to her seat, which will be decided next year.

Two seats are up in next year’s race. Council member Jane Egly is also expected to announce her intention to run for re-election.

“Three years ago, I ran for city council and won with your strong support,” Rollinger said in a prepared statement announcing her bid. “That race was about our frustration with the direction of the city over more than 10 years. I committed to run to stop the slow mansionization of our village and neighborhoods, protect Aliso Canyon and the creek, provide for a greener and less parking-intensive Village Entrance, and expand protection of our wilderness and open space areas.”

“Verna cares about the safety of our community," said Mayor Toni Iseman. "Her hard work and leadership make Laguna a safer place to live. She cares about us and our future."

Rollinger's first fundraiser will be held on September 25 at the home of Kathy and Mike Conway on Lombardy Lane. Tickets and information will eventually be available at her website, we assume, but if you click there now, all you'll see is just a bunch of Latin-looking dummy text and a photo of a sleeping puppy.

Rollinger asked for the support of the many residents who contributed and helped in her 2008 campaign. “I’m inviting you to join me in this campaign to keep moving Laguna in the right direction. There is still work to be done!

“I came to Laguna Beach 41 years ago and raised two children here. Coming to Laguna changed my life. This beautiful town and its people nurtured me and my family and provided opportunities I could never have envisioned. Knowing Lagunans as I do, I know that we share a respect for our history, a strong sense of community, and a willingness to participate in thoughtful planning for our future. Our shared values will be a source of strength in confronting the challenges we face.”
