Get Out: What To Do This Weekend In Laguna Beach

See magical art, find out what makes a bad mother, stroll the Sawdust Fest Winter Fantasy, help restore a natural habitat, or watch animation while listening to music.

KEEP IT WILD VOLUNTEER DAY

WHERE/WHEN: Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Little Sycamore Canyon Staging Area/Nix Nature Center (west side of Laguna Canyon Road, approximately 3.5 miles south of the 405 freeway). Saturday, Nov. 17, 8-11 a.m.

WHY GO? It's a time to give back to Mother Nature. Help the Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks by restoring the wildlands back to their natural state. Participants must be over 18 or accompanied by an adult. For more information and to register, click here or phone 949-923-2235.

SAWDUST FESTIVAL WINTER FANTASY

WHERE/WHEN: 935 Laguna Canyon Rd. Open weekends only: Nov. 17-18 & 23-25 and Dec. 1-2 & 8-9. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 

WHY GO? It's beautiful, it's magical, and it's fun. Have some hot cocoa, see Santa, make some gift purchases and stroll the lovely grounds of the festival. See works created by over 170 exhibitors and watch the famous glassblowing artists at the furnace. For more information, click here or phone 949-494-3030. 

PRICE: $6 for an adult one-day pass, $5 for a senior one-day (65+), $3 for children (6-12), and free for children 5 & under). $9 for a season pass.

 

WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS OPENING RECEPTION

WHERE/WHEN: AR4T Gallery, 210 N. Coast Hwy. Saturday, Nov. 17, 6-9 p.m.

WHY GO? You'll be taken away to a different place as you experience these trippy, surreal, and magical works created by nine female artists. Like illustrations from an "outside-the-box" children's fantasy book, these works are worth seeing in person. Curated by Laguna College of Art and Design graduate Chantal de Felice. MUSIC AT AN EXHIBITION

WHERE/WHEN: Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Rd. Sunday, Nov. 18, 3 p.m.

WHY GO? The 65-member Laguna Concert Band will perform during the presentation of two graduate animation projects created by Laguna College of Art and Design graduates Liz Skaggs and Curtis Carlson. In the lobby, visitors can see Scott Sporleder's photographs and other artwork created by LCAD students. Lobby music provided by Gary Gould and Kathie Grasso-Schroeder. SUSAN STRAIGHT AND DIANA WAGMAN DISCUSS "BAD MOTHERS"

WHERE/WHEN: Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Hwy. Sunday, Nov. 18, 5 p.m.

WHY GO? Both of these authors have "mother" characters in their novels. The two will examine what it is to be a bad mother or a good mother. Is one loved more than the other? For more information, click here or phone 949- 494-4779.
