Get Out: What to Do This Weekend in Laguna Beach (and Beyond)

Celebrate scuba diving, or personally chat with an artist or an author. You can also clean up the coastline and safely dispose of electronics.

ELECTRONICS AND SHREDABLE PAPER RECYCLING
Where/When: Laguna Beach Unified School District Parking Lot, 550 Blumont St., Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Why go:  Instead of stumbling over your unused computers, printers, fax machines, televisions and important documents, you can bring them to the electronics and paper drive-thru. It’s free, no forms to fill out, and you can stay in your car.
Price: Free.

ORANGE COUNTY COASTAL CLEANUP DAY
Where/When:  In Laguna Beach at Crystal Cove State Park, Crescent Bay, Heisler Park, Shaw's (Diver's) Cove, Main Beach, Treasure Island Beach (below the Montage Resort) and Victoria Beach ... and also throughout Orange County. Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon.
Why go: Help make the coast look even more beautiful and restore the marine environment. Pick up trash, separate it for recycling and record your findings. Learn how much trash actually winds up on our shores and how you can educate others about keeping our oceans and rivers clean.
Price: Free.

LAGUNA SEA DWELLERS DIVE CLUB’S 15TH ANNIVERSARY DIVE AND BBQ
Where/When: Saturday at Heisler Park. Dive between 7-9 a.m. BBQ begins around 11 a.m.
Why go: Enjoy a morning dive at one of the most beautiful spots in Southern California and then dig into some delicious barbecue. You can also learn how to become a new member or how to get into diving.
Price: New membership: $50 for individuals, $80 for a family. Renewal membership: $40 for individuals, $60 for a family. Out of area and military special pricing (both new and renewal): $25 for individuals, $40 for a family.

ZAC MARBEN ART SHOW OPENING, WITH MUSIC FROM EL MYSTERIOSO AND DANO FORTE'S JUKE JOINT FREAKSHOW
Where/When: , 210 N. Coast Hwy., Saturday, 7-10 p.m.
Why go: The first solo show by snowboarder and artist Zac Marben features all new paint, ink and paper-incorporated works. Music supplied by El Mysterioso's visual fiesta of flamenco moves and pinata bashing, and Dano Forte's Juke Joint Freak Show, a one-man-band mix of delta blues, country blues and Texas shuffles.
Price: Free.

LECTURE AND WALK-THROUGH AT LAGUNA ART MUSEUM WITH ARTIST LITA ALBUQUERQUE
Where/When: Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Dr., Sunday, 1 p.m.
Why go: Artist Lita Albuquerque will guide you through her current exhibition Emergence. Her works, Red Pigment Paintings and Beekeeper will be examined and discussed.
Price: General admission, $12. Students, seniors, and active military, $10. Children under 12 and museum members, free.

AN EVENING WITH LAGUNA BEACH AUTHOR ED KAUFMAN AT LAGUNA BEACH BOOKS
Where/When: Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Hwy., Sunday, 5 p.m.
Why go: Ed Kaufman is a psychiatrist, writer, father, husband and world traveler. He will discuss From Monks to Mountain Gorillas: A Family's Global Journey, the book he wrote about his family’s travel adventures in five continents. Come hear about elephants in Zimbabwe, crocodiles in Costa Rica, a Thai wedding and ancient rituals in exotic lands.
Price: Free.

THIS WEEKEND BEYOND LAGUNA BEACH ...


Where/When: , 26801 Ortega Hwy., San Juan Capistrano; reception begins 6 p.m. Friday, concert starts at 7
Why go: Enjoy live entertainment from Rod Gilfry, hosted reception and delicious dinner. Proceeds benefit preservation efforts at the Mission.
Pricing: $300 per person


Where/When: , 600 Newport Center Dr., Newport Beach; 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday
Why go: Sample the cuisine from more than 35 of Newport Beach's restaurants, as well as wine from 15 wineries throughout California. Live entertainment from Joan Jett, Taylor Dayne, and Barenaked Ladies.
Pricing: $22 in advance, $25 at the door


Where/When: Laguna Hills Community Center, 25555 Alicia Pkwy., Laguna Hills; starts at noon Saturday and Sunday
Why go: Enjoy a variety of authentic Armenian dishes, watch dances and browse the booths. There will also be a “Fun Zone” just for kids.
Pricing: $5 for 9 years old and up, children 8 and younger free


Where/When: , 29082 Tijeras Creek, Rancho Santa Margarita, 1 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Play a round of golf while raising money for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation. Plus, golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter, with a lucky winner getting up to $2,500.
Pricing: $125 for individual golfer


Where/When: , 241 Avenida la Pata, San Clemente; 4 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Three words: food, music and fun. Live entertainment includes Common Sense, Questions, SoLag Vibrations. Several art displays will be mounted around the park.

Why go: Raises money for the American Soldier Network, which supports the needs of recent military veterans.
