Get Out: What To Do This Weekend in Laguna Beach (and Beyond)

This weekend in the nation and in Laguna Beach, the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is remembered. Other events include fundraisers and an art opening.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS THROUGH ISANCTUARY AT SAWDUST
Where/When: Sawdust Festival Grounds, 935 Laguna Canyon Rd. Saturday, 7-10 p.m.
Why go: iSanctuary is an Orange County nonprofit organization that rehabilitates victims of human trafficking and sex slavery. Live music, food, drinks and fair-trade items available for purchase. to read more.
Price: Pre-event tickets are $25 ($30 at the door). 

MARINE MAMMAL MARTINI MADNESS 
Where/When: Madison Square & Garden Cafe, 320 N. Coast Hwy. Saturday, 5:30 p.m.
Why go: Please join Jon Madison and the for an evening of great martinis to benefit the flippered patients at the PMMC.
Price: Tickets are $30. 

CAROLINE ZIMMERMANN SOLO SHOW "TERROIR: A SENSE OF PLACE" ARTIST RECEPTION
Where/When: Gallery McCollum, 206 N. Coast Hwy. Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
Why go: The Laguna-schooled (and Laguna-surfed) Zimmermann specializes in landscape paintings, many of which depict the fields and flowers of Tuscany, Provence, and yes, Laguna Beach.
Price: Free to attend.

9/11 COMMEMORATION AT LAGUNA BEACH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Where/When: 415 Forest Ave. Sunday, 8:30 a.m.
Why go: A rememberance of the 9/11/2001 attacks with prayer and song. A pancake breakfast will follow from 9:30 a.m. till noon. At 9:45 a.m., Boy Scout Troop 35 and Cub Scout Pack 35 will lead a flag ceremony in Tankersley Hall.
Price: Adults $5, kids under 10 free ($20 maximum per family).

LAGUNA BEACH'S 15th ANNUAL PET PARADE AND CHILI COOK OFF
Where/When: The grounds of the Festival of Arts at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Why go: Proceeds benefit Friends of the Sea Lion, the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter and the Blue Bell Cat Foundation. Pet parade awards include Most Handsome Male, Prettiest Female, Best Costume, Most Beautiful Rescue Pet and Most Gorgeous Senior Pet (10 years and over). For pet and chili cook-off registration, contact Caroline Haines at 949-499-9933.
Price: $5 for adults, children under 5 are free.

BEYOND LAGUNA BEACH:


Where/When: 
Dana Point Harbor, 3:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.Saturday and Sunday
Why go: Take a tours of a tall ships, take a class in the pirate arts and ooh and aah at the pageantry of the Tall Ship and Great Schooner Parade.
Pricing: Free admission; prices vary for admission to Ocean Institute and cruises.


Where/When: Doheny State Beach, Dana Point; Saturday and Sunday
Why go: This two-day music fest includes performances from Ben Harper, Weezer, Cake and local band Common Sense.
Pricing: $50/day in advance, $60 at the door; $80 weekend pass


Where/When: Hidden Valley Park, adjacent to Irvine Meadows (Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre),8800 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine; noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, VIP admission from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why go: Sample 10 (or more) craft brews from breweries around the state, including locals Newport Beach Brewing Co. and Left Coast Brewing Co.
Pricing: $40 general admission, $55 VIP, $10 for designated driver


Where/When: , Iris Ave & Ocean Blvd, Corona del Mar; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Why go: More than 150 of the most distinguished cars in Southern California will be on display.
Pricing: $10 in advance, $15 at the door, children under 12 years old free
