Group Rallies Against Village Entrance Project at City Council Meeting

Submitted by Charlotte Masarik:

A group of Laguna Beach citizens, concerned about the safety, cost and appropriateness of the "Village Entrance"/parking structure, which has been approved by the City Council, appeared at the Council meeting on Tuesday evening, September 3, to express their desire to allow the people of Laguna Beach to vote on this important and expensive project.

Some spoke during the "Public Comments" section of the meeting, while others held signs to communicate their disagreement with the council's decision. The issues brought up by members of the group and others during public comments included aesthetic concerns, water table levels, pollution, traffic congestion, and the fact that the structure would go unused the majority of the year and would not in fact pay for itself, thereby requiring the city to dip into other funds to subsidize it.

Most of the speakers requested that the issue be put on the ballot for the citizens to have a chance to vote about this expensive option.
