Laguna Beach Mayor Kelly Boyd Announces He Has Bone Cancer

"I have no intention of stepping down," he says.

Longtime Laguna Beach fixture, city council member and current mayor Kelly Boyd announced prior to last night's council meeting that he's been diagnosed with bone cancer.

"I visted an oncologist last Thursday," Boyd told the assembled crowd. "I was diagnosed with multiple myonoma, which is bone cancer. Fortunately, it's at stage 2, and I have no intention of stepping down from this dais."

After much applause, Boyd continued.

"This council has some great things coming up this year. We have the skateboard park, the view equity ordinance, (council members) Toni (Iseman) and Elizabeth (Pearson) on the village entrance, the Top of the World-Arch Beach Heights path, and I'm gonna be a part of every one of those things, and I want to see them done this year if we possibly can."

The crowd gave Boyd a standing ovation.
