City Manager Releases 2013 Accomplishments

Editor's note: The following list was compiled and issued by City Manager John Pietig. Additional sections of the city's list of 2013 Accomplishments will be published over the next few days.

City Hall Connect Implementation
- In September 2013, the City launched “City Hall Connect,” a web-based Customer Relations Management system that allows the public to send questions, comments, complaints and inquiries to the City at any time, day or night, from any internet-enabled device.

Document Management System Upgrade - Implemented a new document management system that significantly improves public access to City Clerk and Community Development documents through the City website.

Garbage & Recycling Collection – Negotiated a new, 10-year contract with Waste Management of Orange County for solid waste collection in the City that will increase diversion of recyclables and yard waste from the landfill.

Art in Public Places Installments - Installation of an artist designed handrail by Marsh Scott and sculpture by Cheryl Ekstrom as part of the Broadway Beautification Project.  Installation of 4 temporary murals by Bob Bonn, Patrick Moran, Tom Swimm and Mike Tauber on the Verizon Building on Broadway.

Public Art Installment - Installation of artist designed bench by Larry Gill and Gavin Heath at Heisler Park.

Arts Commission Programming - The Arts Commission presented 19 free concerts, 3 free films and 6 Artist Open Studio events.

Economic Development Action Plan - An Economic Development Action Plan was approved by the City Council in June 2013.

Voice over IP Upgrade - Consolidated telephone services reducing telephone costs by roughly $30,000 a year.

Brown Act/Conflict of Interest Training - An expert in the Brown Act and Conflicts of Interest provided a training in September 2013.

New Budget Format - Implemented a Biennial (two-year) Budget that provides a significant time savings in the preparation and production of the budget.
