Photos: Goodness Grapeness! LB Sister Cities Celebrates New Wine Release

The Sister Cities Association enjoyed a tasting of Beaujolais Nouveau at French 75.

November is here, and with it comes a chill in the air, the brilliant leaves of autumn, and the taste of Beaujolais Nouveau.

To celebrate the release of the wine, Laguna Beach's Sister Cities Association hosted a Beaujolais Nouveau and food pairing event at Thursday evening.

In France, Beaujolais Nouveau is produced and bottled within two months. This makes for a very young and sweet red wine. But, by law, it cannot be sold before the third Thursday of November.

Because Laguna Beach's sister city Menton, France celebrates the release, the LBSC group felt it should do the same.

"[French 75] Chef Pascal has treated us very special," said Sister Cities President Karyn Philippsen. "We'll have three Beaujolais Nouveau tastings, and Chef has prepared some appetizers for us. Then, after that, some people are going in and will eat a four-course meal."

LBSC members Maggie and Roger Owens have been to France several times and spent time in Menton.

"I think if you interact with the people and you get to know the people that live in those towns, you kind of get a feeling that people have similar interests," said Roger.

"Yes, we're all one," said Maggie. "It's good to have a sister city."
